Pioneer recap Nov. 7, 2012
North extended the longest winning streak in Pioneer this week by beating Torrance, 54-0. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.
El Segundo moved up to 464 from 495 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Eagles climbed the ranks as a result of besting South 24-7.
El Segundo's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Lars Nootbaar threw for 164 yards and Seth McKenna had 67 yards receiving. On the ground Austin Brasher chipped in 68 yards. Kaylin Franklin helped El Segundo's passing attack out by catching four balls for 37 yards.
Steve Shevlin's team's Nootbaar and Jamie Stewart have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Nootbaar has thrown for 1186 yards this season, while Stewart, a 5-foot-11 receiver, has 46 catches for 679 yards. The Tartars' Jonathan Heard leads the league in rushing yards with 916.
Torrance's Heard is a mere 84 yards away from breaking the 1,000-rushing-yards mark for the season.
