Basketball Recap: Genesee's Luck Changes for the Better on Friday

Genesee had to endure a 19-game losing streak dating back to last season, but that streak is no more. They walked away with a 45-35 victory over the Flint Southwestern Academy Knights on Friday. This was payback for the Wolves, who suffered a 35-32 loss the last time these two teams met.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Genesee to victory, but perhaps none more so than Qusai Bannoura, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 14 boards. Those 14 rebounds gave Bannoura a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Aydin Cooper, who went 5 for 10 on his way to 14 points.

Genesee smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in five consecutive games.

Genesee's win ended a ten-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 1-15. As for Flint Southwestern Academy, they dropped their record down to 1-10 with the defeat, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Genesee has already played their next matchup (against Bendle), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Flint Southwestern Academy will welcome Beecher at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
