Softball Game Preview: Hidden Valley Mustangs vs. Mazama Vikings

Hidden Valley is preparing for their first league matchup of the season on Tuesday. They will head out to challenge the Mazama Vikings at 5:00 p.m. Hidden Valley is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.

Hidden Valley's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Saturday. They came out on top against Cottage Grove by a score of 5-0.

Scarlett Gordon was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

In other batting news, Aubree Schmidt was excellent, scoring a run while going 3-for-4. Harley Hipps also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Meanwhile, Mazama came up short against Stayton on Tuesday and fell 4-1. The loss was the Vikings' first of the season.

Hidden Valley pushed their record up to 7-0 with the win, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Mazama, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-1.

Hidden Valley took their win against Mazama in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 17-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for Hidden Valley since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
