Basketball Recap: Highland Tech Takes a Loss

Highland Tech was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 65-59 heartbreaker at the hands of the Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy Gryphons. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (57), the Rams still had to take the loss.

When it comes to explaining why Highland Tech lost, don't look at Elijah Sherrill. Despite the final result, he went 8 for 14 from beyond the arc on his way to 38 points. That was a full 64.4% of Highland Tech's points, marking the fifth time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Garrick Spake, who earned seven points and ten rebounds.

Highland Tech's loss dropped their record down to 9-11. As for Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 16-5.

Highland Tech is taking a road trip to challenge Cherryville at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Highland Tech is facing Cherryville at the right time seeing as Cherryville is stuck on a 15-game losing streak. As for Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Greenville H at 7:00 p.m. Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 11 contests -- so hopefully Greenville H likes a good challenge.
