Basketball Recap: Peyton Brady's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Louisa County over Independence

On Friday, the Louisa County Lions ended up a good deal behind Independence and lost 56-42. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Lions came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 134th, while Independence are ranked 273rd).

Louisa County's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Peyton Brady, who posted 11 points and five boards. Brady has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Amara Comfort, who had eight points and six rebounds.

Even though they lost, Louisa County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in five consecutive games.

Brianna Thweatt was a one-woman wrecking crew for Independence as she went 6 of 14 on her way to 18 points and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Kate Kolenbrander, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 12 rebounds.

Louisa County has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-3 record this season. As for Independence, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-5.

Louisa County didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 41-38 win against Eastern View on the 28th. As for Independence, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 50-30 victory against Fauquier on the 28th.
