Baseball Recap: Mendenhall's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Friday

It was a proper cat-fight when Mendenhall duked it out with Quitman on Friday. The Tigers fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 5-4. The Tigers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Panthers earlier this season, when they won 13-8.

Montavis Hobbs spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on four hits and racked up nine Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Mendenhall saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tyler Smith, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double.

With the defeat, Mendenhall broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 9-8. As for Quitman, they now have a winning record of 13-12.

Mendenhall wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 9-7 win against Raleigh on the 14th. As for Quitman, they have also already played their next contest, a 12-1 loss against Neshoba Central on the 12th.
