Baseball Recap: Greenwood Takes a Loss

Greenwood suffered their closest defeat since March 28th on Wednesday. They fell just short of the Newport Buffaloes by a score of 3-1. The Wildcats have struggled against the Buffaloes recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meeting.

A.J. Adlon spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits and racked up ten Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Greenwood saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aaden Sugden, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one run. Michael Hoy also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Greenwood's loss dropped their record down to 6-11. As for Newport, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season.

While Greenwood had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
