The South Amboy Governors will head out on the road to square off against the North Plainfield Canucks at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
South Amboy took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against J.P. Stevens, sneaking past 8-7. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Governors as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.
Diego Col?n and Daniel Evanski did most of the damage at the plate: Col?n got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one run and one double, while Evanski went 1-for-3 with one home run. That home run was Evanski's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Benjamin Smith, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, North Plainfield hadn't done well against South River recently (they were 0-6 in their previous six matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Canucks won by a run and slipped past the Rams 4-3.
Tommy Zotollo was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits (and only one walk). Zotollo was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jake Z, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases. Victor Ceda was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.
South Amboy's record is now 4-8. As for North Plainfield, their record now sits at 9-3.
South Amboy came out on top in a nail-biter against North Plainfield in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, sneaking past 4-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Governors since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
