Baseball Recap: Yucaipa Comes Up Short

For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last six times Yucaipa and Redlands East Valley have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Thursday. The Thunderbirds fell 14-11 to the Wildcats. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Wildcats this season, with their most recent loss being a 4-3 defeat on Tuesday.

Logan Pashman was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in March.

On the hitting side, Landyn Von Kaenel was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Connor White, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.

Yucaipa's record now sits at 14-9. As for Redlands East Valley, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 16-8 record this season.

Yucaipa will take on Redlands at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Thunderbirds are facing the Terriers at the right time seeing as the Terriers are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Redlands East Valley, they will square off against Beaumont at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing is sure in the Wildcats' favor as the team sits on five straight wins at home while the Cougars have been banged up by nine consecutive losses on the road.
