Basketball Game Preview: Astronaut War Eagles vs. Merritt Island Mustangs

Astronaut is on a three-game streak of home losses, Merritt Island a nine-game streak of away losses dating back to last season, but someone's luck will change on Tuesday. The Astronaut War Eagles will welcome the Merritt Island Mustangs at 7:00 p.m.

Astronaut is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against Merritt Island on Thursday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Astronaut was outmatched by Merritt Island and fell 47-12. The War Eagles were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 36-4.

Astronaut better keep an eye on Maddy Motty. She was instrumental in Merritt Island's win, putting up 11 points along with seven rebounds and seven steals. That's the most points Motty has posted since back in November of 2023. Hailie Carver was another key player, earning six points in addition to seven boards and four steals.

Merritt Island smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in six consecutive matchups.
