Preview: Walker Wildcats vs. Denham Springs Yellowjackets
The Walker Wildcats will head out on the road to challenge the Denham Springs Yellowjackets at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Walker sitting on 30 straight victories and Denham Springs on ten.
Walker put the finishing touches on their 25th blowout victory of the season on Tuesday. They claimed a resounding 81-45 win over St. Amant on the road. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as Walker just coasted through the last quarter.
It was another big night for Jamiya Vann, who scored 27 points. Another player making a difference was Kennedi Ard, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds.
Meanwhile, Denham Springs beat Dutchtown 56-43 on Tuesday. Given Denham Springs' advantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana basketball rankings (they are ranked sixth, while Dutchtown is ranked 120th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Walker's victory was their tenth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 32-1. They've been dominating during the contests in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 26.8 points. As for Denham Springs, they are on a roll lately: they've won 15 of their last 16 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 25-3 record this season.
Everything went Walker's way against Denham Springs in their previous meeting back in December of 2023 as Walker made off with a 62-36 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Walker since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
