Basketball Recap: Drake Scaggs' Big Game Can't Quite Lead South Decatur over Alexandria-Monroe

South Decatur was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss dating back to last season. They took a 48-37 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Alexandria-Monroe Tigers. While the Cougars didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Tigers 16-12 in the first quarter.

South Decatur's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Drake Scaggs, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 14 boards. The dominant performance gave Scaggs a new career-high in boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Karson Templeton, who posted 12 points and five rebounds.

South Decatur's record is now 0-7. As for Alexandria-Monroe, their win ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-6.

South Decatur wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 69-60 victory against Austin on the 27th. As for Alexandria-Monroe, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 76-52 loss against Northeastern on the 27th.
