After having lost a blowout in their previous game against May River, Colleton County was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They came out on top against the Beaufort Eagles by a score of 9-5. This was payback for the Cougars, who suffered a 5-3 loss the last time these two teams met.
Bre Gerard and Lanasia Sanders made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Gerard didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. Meanwhile, Sanders tossed two innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Gerard has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances. At the plate, Gerard scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Sanders scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Brooklyn Holmes was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most RBI she has posted over her last 11 contests. Alexia Eversole was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
Colleton County's record now sits at 10-1. As for Beaufort, their defeat was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 5-7.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Colleton County will welcome Branchville at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Beaufort, they will be playing at home against Woodland at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The Wolverines' pitching crew has only allowed 2.8 runs per game this season, so the Eagles' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
