Basketball Recap: Southern Takes a Loss

Southern lost against Fairdale back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Southern Trojans had to suffer through a 88-58 loss at the hands of the Fairdale Bulldogs. While losing is never fun, the Trojans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kentucky basketball rankings (they are ranked 167th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 43rd).

Fairdale got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Kamari Roberts out in front who almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine assists. Anthony Milan Jr was another key player, going 6 for 8 on his way to 14 points and four steals.

Southern has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-14 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.6 points over those games. As for Fairdale, they pushed their record up to 17-7 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home.

Coming up, Southern will welcome Washington County at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Southern has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 190 points over their last three games. As for Fairdale, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, an 85-57 victory against Warren East on the 8th.
