Recap: Wilkes Central Eagles vs. South Iredell Vikings
The Wilkes Central Eagles were the 65-50 winner over the South Iredell Vikings when they last played one another back in December of 2019, but their luck changed this time around. Wilkes Central took a 52-40 hit to the loss column at the hands of South Iredell on Saturday. Wilkes Central has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite the loss, Wilkes Central still got an impressive performance from Anna Rollins, who scored 26 points along with five rebounds and three steals. The matchup was Rollins' 11th in a row with at least ten points.
Even though they lost, Wilkes Central were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
South Iredell had a senior duo take command as Daria Fink dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds and Kayden Johnson dropped a double-double on 18 points and 15 rebounds. That makes it seven consecutive games in which Johnson has scored at least 25% of South Iredell's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Claire Humm, who scored four points.
Wilkes Central now has a losing record at 5-6. As for South Iredell, their victory bumped their record up to 4-8.
Wilkes Central and West Wilkes will face off at 6:30 p.m. on January 2nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. West Wilkes will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak. South Iredell and West Cabarrus will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 3rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday.
