Softball Game Preview: Pittsford Panthers vs. Gates Chili Spartans

Pittsford is a perfect 5-0 against Gates Chili since May of 2024 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Panthers will welcome the Spartans at 5:00 p.m. The last four games Pittsford has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last five times Pittsford and Honeoye Falls-Lima have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Wednesday. The Panthers had just enough and edged out the Cougars 9-7. That's two games straight that the Panthers have won by exactly two runs.

Meanwhile, Gates Chili was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They came up short against Spencerport, falling 17-5.

Payton Kretser was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one run and one double. Maia Lawhorn was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run and one double.

Pittsford's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-5. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 2.4 runs across that stretch. As for Gates Chili, their loss dropped their record down to 3-9.

Pittsford skirted past Gates Chili 11-9 in their previous meeting back in April. Do the Panthers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Spartans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
