Gates County took a six-run loss the last time they faced off against Manteo, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Red Barons won by a run and slipped past the Redskins 5-4.

Hailey Bauer was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched nine innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with one triple and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2025.

In other batting news, Kyndall Banks was incredible, firing off two home runs while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Taylor Westbrook, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

Gates County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .378. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Manteo only posted a batting average of .229.

Gates County has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Manteo, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-5 record this season.

Gates County has already played their next game, a 10-0 victory against Cape Hatteras Secondary on the 15th. As for Manteo, they will face off against Camden County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
