Basketball Recap: Perry Meridian Comes Up Short

Perry Meridian extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 2-5. They took a blow against the Plainfield Quakers, falling 80-44. While losing is never fun, the Falcons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 102nd, while the Quakers are ranked second).

As for Plainfield, their win was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-0. Their offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Plainfield's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Noah Smith, who shot 81% from the field en route to 30 points and five rebounds. The game was Smith's seventh in a row with at least 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Landon Gilliatt, who shot 5-for-9 from long range and almost dropped a double-double with 17 points and nine assists.

Perry Meridian and Avon will round out the year against one another at 11:45 a.m. on Saturday. As for Plainfield, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 63-52 win against Zionsville on the 20th.
