Basketball Game Preview: Clinton Grace Christian Eagles vs. DeMatha Stags

The Clinton Grace Christian Eagles will head out to challenge the DeMatha Stags at 8:00 p.m. on Sunday. One thing working in Clinton Grace Christian's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last eight matchups.

Clinton Grace Christian is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another highly-ranked state team: Archbishop Carroll, who was ranked first in their home state at the time (Clinton Grace Christian was ranked fifth). The Eagles walked away with a 67-58 victory over the Lions on Friday.

Meanwhile, DeMatha posted their closest win since January 28th on Friday. They had just enough and edged out Sidwell Friends 44-41. Those 44 points were actually the fewest the Stags have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.

Clinton Grace Christian better focus on containing Ashton (Ace) Meeks and Jaden Shoultz as the pair were huge in DeMatha's win. Meeks posted 19 points, while Shoultz shot 60% from the field to rack up 15 points. Shoultz is on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last four games he's played. Jaylen Ortiz also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

The victory made it two in a row for DeMatha and bumps their season record up to 4-1. As for Clinton Grace Christian, their win bumped their record up to 9-5.

Clinton Grace Christian came up short against DeMatha in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, falling 73-69. Thankfully for the Eagles, Charles Thomas (who went 9-for-11 en route to 23 points) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
