Softball Recap: Oak Knoll Takes a Loss

After flying high against Union Catholic on Saturday, Oak Knoll came back down to earth. The Royals took an 8-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the New Providence Pioneers on Tuesday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Pioneers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-1 on April 10th.

Kaitlin Wincko spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and five unearned) runs on eight hits.

At the plate, Abby Han made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Amelia Flood, who went 1-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Oak Knoll has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season. As for New Providence, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 7-3.

Coming up, Oak Knoll is taking a road trip to take on Watchung Hills Regional at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Warriors' pitching crew has only allowed 1.3 runs per game this season, so the Royals' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for New Providence, they will welcome Mount St. Mary Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
