Basketball Recap: Cabrillo Piles Up the Points Against Compton

Cabrillo entered their tilt with Compton on Friday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They blew past the Compton Tarbabes, posting an 87-54 victory. Given the Jaguars' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 294th, while the Tarbabes are ranked 1114th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Cabrillo to victory, but perhaps none more so than Lincoln Dean, who went 6 of 10 from beyond the arc en route to 18 points in addition to six assists and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Aden Jones, who went 6 for 9 on his way to 16 points along with six rebounds and three steals.

Dean wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Cabrillo was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Compton only posted seven assists.

When it comes to explaining why Compton lost, don't look at Xavier Goodlow. Despite the final result, he went 7 of 15 en route to 22 points and three steals. Goodlow's evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Orlander Wyatt was another key player, putting up 12 points.

Cabrillo is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.8 points per game. As for Compton, their defeat was their tenth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 3-16.

Cabrillo didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 63-62 loss against Jordan on the 29th. As for Compton, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 77-59 defeat against Sonora on the 25th.
