Basketball Recap: Elwood Comes Up Short

Elwood was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were dealt a 53-25 loss at the hands of the Frankton Eagles. The Panthers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 31-7.

Elwood's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Breelyn Norris, who posted 15 points and seven boards, and Samantha Dockery, who scored six points. That was a full 60% of Elwood's points, marking the 22nd time in a row she's had more than a third of the team's points.

Laela Dietzer was a one-woman wrecking crew for Frankton as she went 6 of 9 to rack up 16 points and five assists. Those five assists gave Dietzer a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophia Hoagland, who put up nine points along with seven rebounds and three steals.

Elwood's loss dropped their record down to 12-10. As for Frankton, their victory bumped their record up to 11-12.

Elwood didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 64-38 defeat against Lapel on the 7th. As for Frankton, they have also already played their next contest, a 58-26 loss against Sheridan on the 4th.
