Football Game Preview: Westerly Bulldogs vs. Burrillville Broncos

Westerly is 0-4 against Burrillville since October of 2018 but things could change on Friday. The Bulldogs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Broncos at 7:00 p.m. Westerly will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.

Westerly is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Rhode Island's top teams: Moses Brown, who was ranked 18th at the time (Westerly was ranked sixth). The Bulldogs took their contest on Saturday with ease, bagging a 42-14 victory over the Quakers. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won four matchups by 28 points or more so far this season.

Landon Husereau was his usual excellent self, throwing for 175 yards and three touchdowns. He has become a key player for Westerly: the team is undefeated when he posts at least three passing touchdowns, but 1-2 otherwise. Daniel Cummings made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.

On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Westerly's defense and their 5.5 sacks. Caleb Williams was especially locked on to Moses Brown's QB and sacked him twice. Cummings got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 49 points the game before, Burrillville was a bit more limited in their game on Saturday. They took a blow against North Kingstown, falling 49-12. The contest marked the Broncos' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Westerly's win bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Burrillville, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-3.

Westerly couldn't quite get it done against Burrillville in their previous meeting back in October of 2024 as they fell 42-33. Thankfully for the Bulldogs, Leland Kelleher (who rushed for 147 yards and four scores) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
