Baseball Recap: Roger Bacon's Luck Changes for the Better on Tuesday

Roger Bacon had to endure a seven-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Purcell Marian Cavaliers a 6-0 shutout on Tuesday. The Spartans not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 24th (when they won 10-0).

Ben Powers was excellent, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. He has become a key player for Roger Bacon: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 4-10 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Kyle Miller, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Roger Bacon hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in three consecutive matchups.

Roger Bacon's win bumped their record up to 7-11. As for Purcell Marian, they dropped their record down to 5-12 with the defeat, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Coming up, Purcell Marian will head out to challenge Cincinnati Country Day at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Roger Bacon will be paying especially close attention to the Cavaliers' contest: after the Cavaliers face off against the Nighthawks, they'll take on Roger Bacon again at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
