Preview: Avon Orioles vs. Pike Red Devils
After each having a week off, The Avon Orioles and the Pike Red Devils will shake off the cobwebs and challenge one another at 7:00 p.m. on October 27th. Avon will be strutting in after a win while Pike will be coming in after a defeat.
Two weeks ago, Avon faced Noblesville in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Avon came out on top against Noblesville by a score of 14-7. The win made it back-to-back wins for Avon.
Keyton Jones was the offensive standout of the contest as he rushed for 186 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.4 yards per carry.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 35 points the game before, Pike were a bit more limited in their game on October 13th. They lost to Lawrence North on the road by a decisive 21-6 margin. While losing is never fun, Pike can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana football rankings (they are ranked 65th, while Lawrence North is ranked 11th).
Avon's victory bumped their record up to 2-7. As for Pike, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-7 record this season.
Avon beat Pike 25-14 in their previous matchup back in October of 2022. Does Avon have another victory up their sleeve, or will Pike turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
