Baseball Game Preview: Rocklin Thunder vs. Jesuit Marauders

The Rocklin Thunder will square off against the Jesuit Marauders at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Rocklin 2.5, Jesuit 3) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Jesuit will be up against a hot Rocklin team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. The Thunder came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 2-1 W against Whitney. That's two games straight that the Thunder have won by just one run.

Rocklin got a great performance from Andrew Hancock as he struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. That's the most strikeouts Hancock has posted since back in February.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Ahren Verma, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, Jesuit earned a 4-1 win over Davis Sr. on Thursday.

Eric Erdmann spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on two hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Jesuit's victory was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Parker Lipp, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one double and one RBI. Petey Palko also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Rocklin pushed their record up to 11-3 with the win, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for Jesuit, their win bumped their record up to 11-3.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Rocklin has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Jesuit struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.6 strikeouts.
