Basketball Recap: Lincoln Southeast Skates Past Columbus with Ease

Lincoln Southeast's found some homefield redemption this week after a overtime loss to Kearney on Friday. The Lincoln Southeast Knights blew past the Columbus Discoverers 74-37. The match was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 40-20.

Mari Shumaker was a one-man wrecking crew for Lincoln Southeast as he went 5 for 8 on his way to 15 points in addition to five assists and five boards. Shumaker is also crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least three every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Jaysean McKinney, who posted 11 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals.

Lincoln Southeast smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in January.

Columbus' loss came despite strong showings from Barrett Brown and Quinn Freshour. Brown had eight points, while Freshour posted eight points.

Lincoln Southeast now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Columbus, they dropped their record down to 1-3 with the loss, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Lincoln Southeast wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 54-43 victory against Fremont on the 17th. Columbus will take on North Platte in a holiday battle at at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Columbus is facing North Platte at the right time seeing as North Platte is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
