Softball Recap: Dan River Snaps Eight-Game Streak of Wins at Home

Dan River dropped their record down to 7-5 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's eight-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season. They lost 15-2 to the Appomattox County Raiders. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Wildcats have suffered since March 21st.

Dan River saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Karsyn Smith, who went 1-for-3 with one run.

As for Appomattox County, their victory was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-3. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

On Appomattox County's side, Paisley Mann was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Mann has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in June of 2024.

In other pitching news, Chloe Vaughan looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on MaKenzie Elliott, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaysen Kesler, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Dan River will take on rival Altavista at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Appomattox County is set to face off against their familiar foe Gretna at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
