Recap: University Hawks vs. Capital Prep Trailblazers
After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Weaver, the University Hawks were happy to have found some success on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 75-73 victory over Capital Prep. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead University to victory, but perhaps none more so than Malik Rich, who scored 28 points. Jakari Laing was another key contributor, scoring 22 points.
Capital Prep's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Syre Gillespie, who scored 28 points. Another player making a difference was Amare Cockfield, who scored 23 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
The win got University back to even at 1-1. As for Capital Prep, their loss was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 1-1.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. University will be home for the holidays to greet Bulkeley at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Capital Prep will be home for the holidays to greet Classical Magnet at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
