Softball Recap: Belle Plaine Takes a Loss

Belle Plaine had lost eight straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 2-14 to make it nine. They came up short against the Medicine Lodge Indians, falling 17-8. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Indians this season, with their most recent loss being a 14-1 defeat on Thursday.

Samantha Stinnett made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games she's played. Heidi Leslie also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.

As for Medicine Lodge, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 8-6. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by six runs or more this season.

On Medicine Lodge's side, Avalon Theis spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and four unearned) runs on ten hits.

On the hitting side, Medicine Lodge got a massive performance out of Lauryn Vasquez, who went 2-for-4 with four runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Those four runs gave Vasquez a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Emmy Gerdes, who got on base in four of her six plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Belle Plaine has already played their next contest, a 16-9 victory against Chaparral on the 8th. As for Medicine Lodge, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 9-4 defeat against Kingman/Norwich on the 8th.
