Basketball Game Preview: Sahuaro Cougars vs. Pueblo Warriors

Having just played yesterday, the Sahuaro Cougars will head out on the road to face off against the Pueblo Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, Sahuaro came up short against Catalina Foothills and fell 45-34.

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Maggie Boyd, who posted nine points and six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Dazmyne Gambrell, who earned six points and six rebounds.

Meanwhile, Pueblo had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 48 points) and they went ahead and made it three last Saturday. They blew past the Scorpions, posting a 74-32 victory. The Warriors have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five matches by 25 points or more this season.

Sahuaro better keep an eye on America Cazares. She was instrumental in Pueblo's win, dropping a double-double on 36 points and ten rebounds. That makes it six consecutive games in which Cazares has scored at least a third of Pueblo's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sara Galindo, who put up 22 points and six assists.

Sahuaro's defeat dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Pueblo, their win bumped their record up to 5-1.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Sahuaro has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 27.3 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Pueblo struggles in that department as they've been averaging 31.7 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.

Sahuaro beat Pueblo 59-50 in their previous matchup back in January. Will Sahuaro repeat their success, or does Pueblo have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
