Basketball Recap: Mt. Rainier Comes Up Short

Mt. Rainier was the 61-60 winner over Tahoma when they last played one another back in December of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Mt. Rainier Rams fell to the Tahoma Bears 50-45. While the Rams didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Bears 20-16 in the first quarter.

Despite the defeat, Mt. Rainier saw an underclassman step up: freshman Tanner Simpson went 7 for 13 en route to 21 points. The dominant performance gave Simpson a new career-high in points. Nathenael Abdi was another key player, putting up two points in addition to eight rebounds and five steals.

Mt. Rainier's loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 9-7. As for Tahoma, their win bumped their record up to 6-11.

Mt. Rainier will look to defend their home court on Friday against Auburn Riverside at 7:00 p.m. Mt. Rainier is facing Auburn Riverside at the right time seeing as Auburn Riverside is stuck on a 12-game losing streak. As for Tahoma, they will head out on the road to take on Kennedy Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Kennedy Catholic will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Tahoma surely won't give up without a fight.
