Softball Recap: Harvest-Westminster Comes Up Short

Harvest-Westminster extended their losing streak to three on Monday, dropping them down to 3-6. They came up short against the Yorkville Christian Mustangs, falling 27-0. The shutout was out of character for the Warriors seeing as the last time the team failed to score was back in March.

As for Yorkville Christian, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 3-10. The matchup marked their most dominant victory of the season.

For Yorkville Christian's part, Bridget Hooper and Sophia Rothlisberger made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Hooper tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Rothlisberger tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Hooper has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. At the plate, Hooper got on base in all five of her plate appearances with four runs, one double, and one RBI, while Rothlisberger went 2-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. Those three runs gave Rothlisberger a new career-high.

In other batting news, Yorkville Christian got a massive performance out of Paige Gillman, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, five runs, and five RBI. That home run was Gillman's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Nia Hooper, who went 4-for-5 with five runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.

Coming up, Harvest-Westminster will face off against St. Edward at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Warriors' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Green Wave have averaged an impressive 9.2 runs per game this season. As for Yorkville Christian, they will challenge Plano at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
