Preview: Jonesboro Cardinals vs. Lovejoy Wildcats
Jonesboro is 8-0 against Lovejoy since December of 2016, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Monday. The Jonesboro Cardinals will look to defend their home court against the Lovejoy Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Jonesboro waltzed into Friday's contest with two straight wins but they left with three. They blew past Morrow 75-34 at home. The result was nothing new for Jonesboro, who have now won three games by 21 points or more so far this season.
Jonesboro got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Montez Redding out in front who scored 17 points along with 5 rebounds. The contest was Redding's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Chris Jones, who scored 12 points along with 7 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Lovejoy was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Friday as they fell 71-65 to Woodward Academy. While losing is never fun, Lovejoy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 217th, while Woodward Academy is ranked 43rd).
Their wins bumped Jonesboro to 4-3 and Morrow to 4-5.
Jonesboro didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Lovejoy in their previous matchup back in February, but they still walked away with a 72-66 win. Will Jonesboro repeat their success, or does Lovejoy have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
