Recap: Howland Tigers vs. St. Joseph Academy Jaguars
The Howland Tigers waltzed into their match Friday with three straight wins but they left with four. The stars were shining brightly for them in a 72-58 victory over St. Joseph Academy. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Alyssa Massucci continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 27 points. That makes it eight consecutive games in which she has scored at least 25% of Howland's points. Another player making a difference was Sophia Powell, who scored 14 points.
Howland pushed their record up to 7-1 with that victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.0 points per game. As for St. Joseph Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-3.
Howland and St. Joseph Academy will face off at 7:00 p.m. on December 28th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. St. Joseph Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past four games -- so hopefully Howland likes a good challenge. St. Joseph Academy will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Howland at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Howland's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three games.
