Football Recap: El Segundo's Winning Streak Snapped at Four Games

El Segundo dropped down to 8-2 on Thursday, ending the team's four-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the West Warriors by a score of 31-28. The Eagles were not able to make up for their loss to the Warriors from their previous meeting back in November of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why El Segundo lost, don't look at Lincoln Quaintance. Despite the final result, he rushed for 178 yards and four TDs while picking up 9.4 yards per carry. Quaintance showed off some serious burst, cutting through the defense on one rush that went for 50 yards. El Segundo also got a significant boost from Ryan Wiacek, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 102 yards.

As for West, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 6-4. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 10.0 points on average over those games.

West's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Dominic Golia led the charge by throwing for 234 yards and four touchdowns. Golia's passing game has become a key predictor of the Warriors' success: the team is undefeated when his passer rating is 110 or higher, but only 2-4 otherwise. Blake Ely helped Golia out on the ground, picking up 51 receiving yards and a pair of scores, while also rushing for 43 yards.

El Segundo and West are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Eagles will square off against Calabasas at 7:00 p.m. on the 7th. El Segundo will be up against the Coyotes' rather soft defense (which has allowed 32.5 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for West, they will take on Liberty at 7:00 p.m. on the 7th.
