Girard was forced to take a big loss against they on Thursday, they got the better of them on Thursday. Everything went their way against the Anderson County Mavericks as they made off with an 8-2 victory. Considering the Indians have won five matches by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Zach Ward and Will Hynes did most of the damage at the plate: Ward got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three RBI, one run, and one double, while Hynes went 4-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Hynes is becoming a predictor of Girard's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 3-5 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Evan Tuttle, who went 3-for-4 with one run.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Girard kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Anderson County only managed four hits.
Girard's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 10-5. As for Anderson County, their defeat ended an 18-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 24-10.
Looking ahead, Girard will challenge Northview Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Anderson County, they will square off against Carter at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The Green Hornets' pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so the Mavericks' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
