Softball Recap: Hancock Comes Up Short

Hancock was the 5-3 winner over Houghton when they last played one another back in April, but their luck changed this time around. The Bulldogs fell just short of the Gremlins by a score of 7-6 on Tuesday. That's two games in a row now that the Bulldogs have lost by just one run.

Hancock's loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 7-7. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the defeats came by an average of only 1.33 runs. As for Houghton, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-5 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hancock will welcome Ishpeming at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Hematites have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed nine runs per game on average), something the Bulldogs will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Houghton, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Jeffers at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
