Basketball Recap: Brodie Stinson's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Zion Chapel over Ariton

Zion Chapel was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were two points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 51-49 heartbreaker at the hands of the Ariton Purple Cats. Sadly, that's the third time they've come up short against the Rebels this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 55-39 last Tuesday.

Zion Chapel lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Brodie Stinson, who posted 18 points. Stinson has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Kavan Brown was another key player, putting up ten points along with seven assists and six boards.

Ariton got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Easton Kilpatrick out in front who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds. Those 12 boards gave Kilpatrick a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryson Rhett, who had nine points in addition to five boards and three steals.

Zion Chapel's loss dropped their record down to 3-10. As for Ariton, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season.

Zion Chapel wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 61-49 defeat against Dale County on the 17th. As for Ariton, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 52-44 loss against Slocomb on the 19th.
