Game recap: Powered by Byerly and Gasper Rangely high school football team defeats Soroco

Chas Byerly ran for two touchdowns and Toby Gasper added two as well as Rangely (Colo.) bested Soroco (Oak Creek, Colo.) 54-7 on Saturday.

After taking the lead on a touchdown run by Byerly in the first quarter, the Panthers led 42-7 at the half.

Rangely expanded its lead to 47 points entering the fourth quarter. RHS scored two times in the third, including once on a touchdown run by Colton Coombs.

The Panthers put up 28 points in the first quarter en route to the win. Rangely scored on a Byerly touchdown run, a touchdown catch by Byerly, a touchdown run by Gasper and a Gasper touchdown run in the quarter.

Byerly stood out for RHS in the win. The senior running back caught one touchdown. He has now scored 10 touchdowns on the season.

The Rams' lone touchdown came on a run in the second quarter.



Soroco came in giving up 14.5 points per game this season. SHS struggled against the Panthers, which came in averaging 42.3 points per game. Rangely had struggled this season, allowing 31.2 points per game. But RHS tightened up and held the Oak Creek school well below its season average of 40.7 points per game.

The defeat comes as a step back for Soroco, which notched a 48-6 victory over South Park in its previous outing.

In a A-8 East - Central (8 Man) game next week Rangely (4-3) takes on South Park, and Soroco (4-3) will go up against West Grand also in a A-8 East - Central (8 Man) game.
