Basketball Game Preview: Union Colony Prep Timberwolves vs. Clear Creek Golddiggers

Having just played yesterday, the Union Colony Prep Timberwolves will head out on the road to face off against the Clear Creek Golddiggers at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Union Colony Prep will be strutting in after a win while Clear Creek will be coming in after a defeat.

While Union Colony Prep didn't have the best season last year (they finished 6-13), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They blew past Dawson School, posting a 67-19 victory. That 48 point margin sets a new team best for the Timberwolves this season.

Soliana Gebremeskel continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, going 8 for 14 from beyond the arc on her way to 49 points and five steals. That makes it five consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Union Colony Prep's points. Jaelynn Valdez was another key player, putting up ten points along with eight rebounds and five assists.

Union Colony Prep was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since the start of last season.

Meanwhile, Clear Creek was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss dating back to last season. They were dealt a 57-3 defeat at the hands of South Park. While losing is never fun, the Golddiggers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 300th, while the Burros are ranked 120th).

Union Colony Prep's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-1. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.3 points per game. As for Clear Creek, their loss dropped their record down to 0-6.

Union Colony Prep was able to grind out a solid victory over Clear Creek in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, winning 39-29. Will Union Colony Prep repeat their success, or does Clear Creek have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
