Basketball Game Preview: Gonzales Apaches vs. Cuero Gobblers

Gonzales is 1-9 against Cuero since January of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Gonzales Apaches will be playing in front of their home fans against the Cuero Gobblers at 6:30 p.m.

Gonzales is headed into the matchup having just suffered their biggest loss since November 22, 2024 on Friday. They took a blow against La Vernia, falling 63-31. While losing is never fun, the Apaches can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 830th, while the Bears are ranked 332nd).

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Cuero). They took their contest on Friday with ease, bagging a 62-27 win over John F. Kennedy. The victory was familiar territory for the Gobblers who have now won eight games in a row.

Gonzales better keep an eye on Arissa Carbonara. She was instrumental in Cuero's win, almost dropping a triple-double on 17 points, ten boards, and nine steals. Carbonara is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down ten or more in the last 11 games she's played. Mauryana Dasilva was another key player, going 7 of 11 on her way to 16 points and three steals.

Cuero was working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. They are 5-1 when they've passed the ball that well.

Cuero has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matches, which provided a nice bump to their 21-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 28.7 points per game. As for Gonzales, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-14.
