Preview: Westlake Wolverines vs. Patuxent Panthers
Westlake is 7-0 against Patuxent since February of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Wednesday. The Westlake Wolverines will be playing at home against the Patuxent Panthers at 5:30 p.m. The pair have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses apiece.
Westlake struggled with assists on Friday (Huntingtown had 17 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Westlake was dealt a 63-34 loss at the hands of Huntingtown.
Despite the loss, Westlake saw an underclassman step up: Caila Alexander scored eight points along with two steals. Another player making a difference was Akeylah McPherson, who scored six points.
Patuxent suffered their biggest loss since December 6, 2023 on Friday. They were the victim of a tough 50-28 loss at the hands of Northern. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat Patuxent has suffered against Northern since February 14, 2018.
Autumn Kern was Patuxent's leading scorer, having posted seven points. Kern also led the team in assists with four.
Westlake's defeat dropped their record down to 2-5. As for Patuxent, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 3-8.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Westlake have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 31.1 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Patuxent, though, as they've been averaging only 27.9 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything came up roses for Westlake against Patuxent in their previous meeting back in February of 2022 as the squad secured a 74-32 win. Will Westlake repeat their success, or does Patuxent have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
