Baseball Game Preview: Mitchell Bluejackets vs. Perry Central Commodores

The Mitchell Bluejackets will head out on the road to face off against the Perry Central Commodores at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.

Mitchell took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. They blew past White River Valley 11-1. The victory continues a trend for the Bluejackets in their matchups with the Wolverines: they've now won five in a row.

Dasen Kerr was incredible, going 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Kogen Wigley also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Meanwhile, Perry Central won against Crawford County last Thursday with 12 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Wednesday. The Commodores were the clear victors by a 12-5 margin over Orleans. The Commodores might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by six runs or more this season.

The team relied heavily on Owen Hubert, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. Griffin Harpenau was another key player, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Mitchell's record is now 7-3. As for Perry Central, their record now sits at 7-2-1.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Mitchell has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Perry Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Mitchell came out on top in a nail-biter against Perry Central in their previous meeting back in April of 2025, sneaking past 3-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bluejackets since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
