Baseball Recap: Mentor Gets the Win

University School typically has all the answers at home, but on Friday Mentor proved too difficult a challenge. They walked away with a 4-1 victory over the Preppers. This was payback for the Cardinals, who suffered an 11-1 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Dom Luvison tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Jake McCartney was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run. Brayden Bortnick was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Mentor's win bumped their record up to 14-4. As for University School, their loss ended a 21-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 18-3.

Coincidentally, Mentor and University School will both be playing North the next time they take the field. The Preppers will host the Rangers at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, while the Cardinals will head out to face them at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
