Baseball Recap: Rogers Takes a Loss

Rogers extended their losing streak to six on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 4-10 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-5 heartbreaker at the hands of the Johnston Panthers. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Vikings of the 7-5 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2022.

Darren Carter was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Trenton Carter was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

As for Johnston, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 3-10 record this season. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win they have posted since May 29, 2024.

On Johnston's side, Aiden Neil was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Neil has become a key player for Johnston: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most one hit, but 1-9 otherwise. Neil was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

In other batting news, Ethan Bracey was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Corey Ogden, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Rogers will square off against Mt. Pleasant at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Johnston, they will be playing at home against Ponaganset at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
