Baseball Recap: Monterey Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Monterey, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They came out on top against the Soledad Aztecs on Thursday by a score of 3-1 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). This was a revenge game for the Dores: when they faced off against the Aztecs last Tuesday, they had to take a 3-1 defeat.

Not much got past Johnny Money, who gave up just four hits and racked up seven Ks to keep Soledad off the board. Money also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Monterey is 3-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 1-10 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Monterey saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Luke Miramontes, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI.

Monterey's record now sits at 4-11. As for Soledad, their loss was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 5-9.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Monterey will welcome North Salinas at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Dores' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Vikings have averaged an impressive 6.3 runs per game this season. As for Soledad, they will host Hollister at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Haybalers' pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so the Aztecs' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
