Baseball Game Preview: Calexico Bulldogs vs. Holtville Vikings

Calexico and Holtville are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2020, but likely not for long. The Bulldogs will head out to face off against the Vikings at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Calexico will be looking to extend their current eight-game winning streak.

Calexico proved they can win big back in April (they won by six) and back in April they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Central, sneaking past 6-4.

Calexico got a great performance from David Lara as he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Lara has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Ander Garcia was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Randy Baez, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs.

Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Holtville ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They skirted past Central 4-3. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Vikings as it put an end to their eight-game losing streak.

Calexico's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-3-1. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.25 runs across that stretch. As for Holtville, their victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-7 and their overall record up to 6-16.

Calexico beat Holtville 3-0 in their previous matchup back in March. Will the Bulldogs repeat their success, or do the Vikings have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
