Softball Recap: Union Triumphs

Union was handed a 12-run defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Tuesday. They won by a run and slipped past the Choctaw Central Ftng Warriors 4-3. This was a revenge game for the Yellowjackets: when they faced off against the Ftng Warriors back in February, they had to take a 3-1 loss.

Aubrie Coleman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on two hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Destiny Moulds, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Union is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 13-13-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.8 runs over those games. As for Choctaw Central, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 19-7.

Union and Choctaw Central are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Yellowjackets will take on Magee at 6:00 a.m. on Friday. The Trojans have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.5 runs per game on average), something Union will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Choctaw Central, they will face off against Richland at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Rangers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.1 runs per game on average), something the Ftng Warriors will no doubt try to take advantage of.
