Baseball Game Preview: Mission Bears vs. South San Francisco Warriors

The Mission Bears are taking a road trip to face off against the South San Francisco Warriors at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Mission has given up an average of 8.8 runs per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

On Thursday, Mission came up short against Balboa and fell 12-8.

Meanwhile, South San Francisco entered their tilt with Jefferson on Thursday with ten consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with 11. They were the clear victors by a 9-1 margin over the Grizzlies. The Warriors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 matches by seven runs or more this season.

Gabriel Martin and Vince Bernal were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Martin didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over six innings pitched. Meanwhile, Bernal tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than one hit in 11 consecutive appearances. At the plate, Martin went 2-for-3 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run, while Bernal went 1-for-4 with two runs and one double. Those four RBI gave Martin a new career-high.

In other batting news, Oscar Reyes was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. Josh Nabung was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

South San Francisco pushed their record up to 17-4 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.4 runs over those games. As for Mission, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-19 record this season.

Mission couldn't quite get it done against South San Francisco in their previous matchup back in February of 2024 as they fell 5-0. Can the Bears avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
